A286 is an iron-base superalloy used when a combination of high strength and corrosion resistance is needed up to $1000^{\circ}F$ ($538^{\circ}C$). It is particularly valuable in exhaust systems and turbine components. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is closely matched to many stainless steels, reducing thermal stresses in assemblies. Compared to Inconel, A286 is more cost-effective but offers slightly lower oxidation resistance.
