What are the functions and effects of wave springs? What should we pay attention to when purchasing wave springs?

Wave springs have the ability to save space. Wave springs are elastic components with a number of peaks and valleys on a thin circular metal sheet. The functions of wave springs are:

  1. 1.Control mechanical motion, such as valves, clutches, etc. in internal combustion engines.

  2. 2.Absorb vibration and impact energy, such as buffer springs in automobiles and railway carriages, vibration absorption springs in couplings, etc.

  3. 3.Store and output energy as a driving force, such as clocks and watches, etc.

  4. 4.Used as force sensors, such as spring scales, spring gauges, etc. The ratio of load to deformation of the spring is called the spring stiffness, and the greater the stiffness, the harder the spring is.

Wave springs are thin annular elastic metal components made of a plurality of wave peaks and valleys, which are simply referred to as wave springs. Single-layer wave springs are elastic components made of metal rings with a certain number of wave peaks and valleys, while multi-layer wave springs look like they are composed of many single-layer wave springs and are similar to multi-layer spiral springs.

Wave springs are widely used in motor, textile machinery, mechanical manufacturing, petrochemical industry, hydraulic equipment, automobiles and other industries. They are installed in bearing chambers or holes with appropriate specifications, and have a small installation space. They have the functions of reducing noise and vibration and are suitable for large stroke and small load applications.

Compared with ordinary spiral compression springs, wave springs can save at least half of the space when bearing similar loads; they can reduce the overall volume of equipment and save costs; they are very suitable for applications where axial space is limited; by changing the thickness or width of the material or making two or three layers of overlapping wave springs to meet different load requirements.
